Kirt Mosier is an internationally known and critically acclaimed composer and conductor. Mosier is the Artistic Director for the Kansas City Youth Symphony, as well as, the co-conductor of the Lee’s Summit Symphony Orchestra. National Composition Award winner on two different occasions, Mosier has traveled the globe to conduct numerous international orchestras, but also stays connected locally through the Lee’s Summit School District and the Lee’s Summit Symphony. The Lee’s Summit community is lucky to have such an accomplished musician and we welcome him as the next conductor of the Lee’s Summit Symphony.

How did you get started with the LS Symphony?
When the symphony first started, they commissioned me to write a piece for their inaugural concert. I wrote them a piece called “Warrior’s Run.”

GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS
What are you most excited about as the new director?
I’m looking forward to working with wonderful musicians, a great audience and help bring the Lee’s Summit community together with beautiful music.

What instruments do you play and do you have a favorite?
I play piano, all low brass, and string bass. My favorite to play is piano.

What’s the one thing you wish people knew about the symphony?
The Lee’s Summit Symphony Orchestra is full of amazing professional level musicians. I wish we could have a bio for every musician in every program so people could know the special quality of this orchestra.

What is your vision for the next five years for the symphony?
I want to continue the great tradition of the Lee’s Summit Symphony Orchestra and continue building our audience through special targeted performances that have a wide range of audiences and musical interests.

What can people expect to see this season?
Everyone can expect high energy music that is well executed!

Tell us about your family. I have been married to my beautiful wife, Lori, for 34 years. We have 3 sons, 1 daughter and 5 grandchildren.

What was your first job? Godfather’s Pizza

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a composer.

Are you an indoor or outdoor person? Outdoors, for sure.

What’s your favorite thing about Lee’s Summit? The sense of a historical community and the wonderful people I have the privilege of working with.
