Greetings from the 2024 Chair of the Board:
Kirby Asplund
Happy New Year, and Welcome to 2024!
As I’m writing this, it’s January. Across the nation, millions of people armed with good intentions and a New Year’s resolution have joined health clubs. Those who go in with a long-term commitment and a plan of attack will reap incredible benefits. Some, though, will fade quickly after an initial burst of enthusiasm. This second group will question the value of their investment and may even consider dropping out. What does this have to do with the Chamber? I’ll tell you.
When I joined the Chamber more than 10 years ago, Cathy Young, who was at that time the director of membership, gave me great advice: “Engage.” She suggested that I join a committee or two, and that as much as possible, I attend events like ribbon cuttings, Recess for Success, Before and After Hours, the annual Gala, volunteering for Oktoberfest, and more. Cathy was right on target.
I can testify that your level of engagement will be more than matched by your visibility within the business community – both as an individual and a company. When you join a Chamber committee, for example, you’re helping to shape the Chamber agenda. You’re making a difference both for the Chamber and for the collective business community. Your commitment will bear a solid return on investment. It’s good for you. It’s good for business.
As we launch into 2024, I am proud and honored to serve as the chair of the Chamber Board of Directors. I follow in the footsteps of some great business and community leaders, and look forward to working with you, the various committees, Chamber President Matt Baird and our exceptional Chamber staff.
I hope to see you and talk with you at many Chamber events in the coming year.
Yours Truly,
Kirby Asplund
